TENUN MANTAR: WEAVING TRADITION IN WEST SUMBAWA

Tenun Mantar is a traditional weaving craft originating from Mantar, a village in West Sumbawa. As the heart of traditional weaving in the region, Mantar plays a pivotal role in preserving the weaving traditions that have long been a key aspect of the local cultural identity. The intricate patterns and time-honoured techniques reflect the deep history and craftsmanship of the community, passed down through generations.
In an effort to keep these traditions alive, local communities, particularly the younger generations, are encouraged to learn not only the art of weaving but also the history behind it. Beyond preserving the craft, there is also a push to develop it so it can be adapted to modern markets. This effort ensures that Mantar weaving remains relevant and expands its reach while still maintaining its traditional roots.
